Last night the Under 18's bowed out
of the F.A. Youth Cup. Wycombe Wanderers were the visitors to Park Lane, and
whilst the youngsters were beaten they were not disgraced. This was the
furthest that any Canvey Youth team had ever got. We will have a full match
report, up shortly. To visit the Under 18's section, which now
included squad details, just click
here. The result last night was Canvey Island Youth 2 Wycombe Wanderers
Youth 5. 31/10/01 |

We
have had several enquiries both via email, and on the discussion
board, as to the possibility of flying to Wigan (Well Blackpool, Liverpool
or Manchester to be exact!).Because of the cost of
hiring an aircraft, taxes, transfers to the ground etc., the cost is going
to be just a tad more than a coach. The difference is the time, and the
thrill of flying. We would expect the flight to last for about 1 hour or so,
and then a short coach transfer to the ground.
If you are seriously interested, please add your name to
the thread on the
discussion board here. The price will vary on the number of seats that
we can sell, and could vary between £150 and £200 per person (max). This
will include all taxes, transfer to the ground, flight from Southend, etc...
We will book it through a contact, and all the passengers would be fully
covered under ATOL & ABTA guarantees.
As this is the first time, anything like this has been
planned, we will all be learning together, however we are using the same
company that fly Tottenham fans to their away games. So quality is
guaranteed...
We will not make anything out of the trip, and the cost
will be evenly spread, so you may well get a refund of part of your ticket,
depending upon numbers.
Payment will be required in advance, and you can make it
via credit card. Please add your name to the thread, along with the number
of seats required
here. 30/10/01 |

Canvey
overcame a confident and spirited Halesowen
side, to progress to the 4th qualifying round of the F. A. Cup. Paul Cobb
became the first player to score against Halesowen in 9 games, a sequence
that 'The Yeltz' went into the match hoping to extend. A full match report
is now online here, and some photos
will follow. The 4th round, is when the Conference sides enter the cup, but
as Canvey proved last season, these are not the force that we once thought.
The draw will be released at 10am on Monday. The Gull's earned £10,000 for
their victory in the Black Country, to add to their £7,500 for the win over
Somersett & Ambury. We will have Canvey's next opponents as soon as it is
released, which will be played on Saturday 27th October at 3pm.

Former
Canvey player Peter Taylor, is being lined up to take charge of
football league neighbours Southend United. The former manager Dave Webb
resigned yesterday (Monday). Taylor will take charge of a training session
tomorrow (Thursday). Speaking from his Thorpe Bay home Taylor told the Times
'"It will get me out of the house
and take my mind off things, I feel I have a lot of qualities and am
determined to prove Leicester wrong for letting me go. I have heard there
might be a couple of things coming up but there have been no real offers."
Taylor started his footballing career turning out for the Gulls as a
teenager back in 1969, scoring 2 goals in a first team 4 - 1 victory over
Highfield in the Greater London League.

Congratulations
to the under 18's squad, who are through to the first round proper of the F.A. Youth Cup. They beat Chesham United at Chesham 1 - 0, with Liam
Nicholson getting the winner in the first half. The Canvey defence stood up
well to countless attacks throughout the second half, but the young squad
held firm. The lads are now at home to Wycombe Wanderers in the first round.
The game will be played at Park Lane, and we will advise upon the date and
time, as soon as we have confirmation. 6/10/01 |

Gulls
Boss Jeff King has been named as the 'Non-League Manager of the
Year 00/01', it was announced today. Other nominations for this
award included Brian Talbot & Gary Hill. At the same presentation at the
Chelsea Village, Wayne Vaughan was presented with a golden boot for
'Predator of the Year'. He won this jointly with Gary Abbott. The Club won
the FA Cup Eastern Region Award, and Frances Roche collected this on behalf
of the club. Canvey were the only club to win three awards. The award
of 'Non-League Manager of the Year' follows Jeff's
terrific season when he led his team to runners-up position in the Ryman
Premier league, the defeat of Port Vale in the 1st round proper of the FA
Cup and victory at Villa Park in the final of the FA Trophy.
When
interviewed on BBC Essex Jeff admitted to being overwhelmed at the award,
not only for himself, but also for his wife and children and especially
for his father, Jack, who has shared so many of the golden moments from
his regular seat in the stand.
Everyone at CanveyFC.Com send their
congratulations to Jeff, Wayne & the club in general for their awards. 4/10/01

Canvey Youth's Under 10 side, have this season moved to
a new ground. Following last years washout Manager Richard Walker is hoping
for more games at their new pitch in Linden Way, just behind the Catholic
Church. The squad for this season is Joe Walker (GK), Craig Doughty, Jake
Wilson, Jack Carver, Jamie Coranado, Billy Keys, Josh mcCann, James Thompson
and Lewis Thompson. Head Coach is Mick Thompson. At the end of last season
two players moved on - Joe Maskell went to Canvey Orient and Stuart Hepburn
to Southend United Youth Acadamy on a one year contract. We wish both boys
the very best of luck with their new clubs. 2/10/01 |
