F.A. UMBRO TROPHY draw was made
today and it's disappointing news for Canvey.
1 Margate or Braintree Town v Scarborough or Morecambe
2 Northwich Victoria or Telford United v Yeovil Town or
Canvey Island
3 Stevenage Borough v Stalybridge Celtic
4 Burton Albion v Chester City
Games to be played on
16th March 2002 25/2/02
John Morrisreports that the Curry
Evening, organised to raise money for the Youth Teams was a great success.
John says, "On Sunday 24th, on an evening when most people were snugly
wrapped up in the warmth of their carpet slippers and T V sets, those made
of sterner stuff went to the Maharaja in Benfleet for an evening of Indian
Delight. The evening went very well and a profit of £280 will go to help the
CIFC Youth Teams. A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported the event."

We now know that Yeovil and Doncaster
will have to replay their Trophy game on 23rd February. This means
that Canvey will have to play the winners at a later date, probably Tuesday
26th. But that seems unfair that, because Yeovil couldn't get their
pitch ready to play, Canvey fans will have to face a 400 mile round journey
on a midweek evening - almost impossible for most of them. It is
understood that Canvey will be appealing to the FA for the game to be played
on a more convenient date. Watch this space for more details.

The
Competitions Secretary for the F.A. Steve Clark, announced today
that the 4th Round FA Trophy game between Yeovil Town and Doncaster Rovers,
due to be played on Tuesday 12th February, has been postponed with a new
date set for Tuesday 19th February at 7:45pm. So far, so good, but
should that game end in a draw, the replay has been scheduled for Saturday
23rd February - the date originally set for the 5th round game between the
winners and Canvey Island. Should bad luck conspire against the
Islanders and the game is unable to be played on 23rd it looks like Canvey
fans will have to make the long journey (north = 207 miles or West = 178
miles) on the following Tuesday night, 26th February. This could mean
that the game originally scheduled for 23rd against St Albans will go ahead
(now that St Albans are back in business) but the home game against
Heybridge Swifts, on the fixture list for 26th Feb, will have to be played
at a later date. Watch this space (and our Fixtures Page) for further
updates.
Our travel page now has directions to help you get to either YEOVIL or DONCASTER 12/2/02
Julian
Dicks won't be playing for the Gulls again according to his agent
Rachel Anderson. It seems that his knee injury has finally defeated
him and, according to Ms Anderson, Julian would now like to move onto
coaching. He was an instant favourite at Park Lane amongst the fans
and he certainly made his contribution during his short spell with the club.
Probably his best performance was at Wigan where he helped Canvey to a well
deserved 1:0 victory. He will also be remembered for the move he
started against Northampton, made famous by Barry Davies' commentary live on
Match of the Day - "Dicks,
taking his time, it gets the flick on it will find Stimson and here’s
Gregory, and that’s a lovely goal, that is a lovely goal. Really really well
made from back to front. Oh he can’t believe it. What was it he said to them
in the dressing room. All that waving of the arms must be what you have to
do as you build from the back, you hit a long ball, Julian the provider,
flick on by Parmenter then by Stimson, finished by Gregory, 1-0 Canvey,
delightful!" 8/2/02

Wayne Purser has been appointed as the Match Day Secretary at
Canvey Island FC and he takes up his appointment on Saturday 9th Feb in time
for the game against Hampton & Richmond. Wayne has been on the Canvey
scene for quite a while as a player and, more recently, as Reserves Team
Secretary. He will take a lot of the workload off Club Secretary
Frances Roche who will now concentrate on the actual business of the
company, leaving match arrangements, referees and venues to Wayne. Wayne can
be contacted at wayne@canveyfc.com

Canvey
might not know which ground they are to travel
to until late Tuesday 19th February, just a few days before the date of the
scheduled 5th round tie. This is due to Yeovil's ground being waterlogged
again, causing their 4th round clash to be delayed until the 12th, with a
possible replay up at Doncaster on the 19th. We expect the coach travel
costs to be very similar to either of the venues, and we hope to be able to
start selling tickets for travel at Saturday's home game against Hampton &
Richmond. Tickets will be sold on the understanding that the game will be at
either Yeovil or Doncaster. Further information on how to book your coach
seats will be made available over the next few days.
