We
have today launched the first in a series of photographs, taken by
Ian. Each photograph is 210mm x 297mm (A4), and is produced on high
quality photographic material, and then mounted in a good quality frame
that is suitable for either standing on the side, or for hanging from the
wall. The cost of each photograph is just £7.50, the profits from which
will go to the building fund for the new clubhouse.
You can order your mounted photographs online now by
clicking here.
There are currently four photographs in the series - the
first one shown here, is the moment when Steve Tilson lifts the F.A.
Trophy along with the rest of the team. The second shows Ben Chenery
displaying the trophy. The third is the moment when the coach returned to
Park Lane, and the fourth shows the reception of fans awaiting the return
of the players. 23/5/01

The
Supporters Club Meeting that we told you about

Sunday's memories, will remain with Canvey supporters for many
years to come. As usual we had our resident photographer Ian pitch side,
to cover the day. We have now put together a series of pages, recalling
the day in words and pictures. If you have any photos to add to the story,
please let us know - they can be emailed to
trophyphotos@canveyfc.com
or via the post to CIFC Website, PO Box 98, Canvey Island SS8 9GD. Why not
share your memories with others - full credit will be given to any photos
submitted. Please
the days activities - check back over the next few days, as we add
pictures to the pages. 15/5/01

In
front of over 10,000 people, Canvey won the F.A. Umbro Trophy
yesterday at Aston Villa. It was the first time that a team outside the
conference, had beaten a conference team in the final. Celebrations
continued back at Park Lane, and ran well into the night. We will have
more pictures, and a report from the days action, online shortly.
Congratulation to all the players, and management team from
everyone at CanveyFC.Com.
See
http://www.isthmian.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=14 for some of the many messages
received. 14/5/01

At
just after 6am, the 'Yellow Army' started to descend on the sea
front, and enjoy the traditional Trophy Final breakfast. We will have more
pictures of the day, as it unfolds, and will post these later on.
13/5/01 06:45! |
Tomorrow's
F.A. Trophy, may not kick off until 12 noon - but the action
starts at the crack of dawn here on Canvey.
Coaches A & B, will leave from Lubins Car Park, next to Astairs on the seafront at 8am. Coaches C - O will leave from Park Lane at 8am. Please note
that there will be no parking in the area of Park Lane, people are advised
to either walk, or get a lift to their departure point. Restrictions apply
on many of the roads, including the sea front.
The
turnstiles will open at 10.30am, at Villa
Park, for anyone arriving early. From 10.45 pitchside entertainment will
commence with Dingle Fingle Clown(?!), before the teams warm up at 11.15.
Jimmy Greaves, who is the Chief Guest tomorrow, will
present 23 caps to the
England Semi-pro internationals at 11.25.
The national anthem will be played at 11.56, just prior
to the toss. During the half time interval, there will be an Umbro Penalty Shoot out.
The referee tomorrow is A.G. Wiley, with his assistants
M.L. Short and T.M. Kettle. The fourth official is C.J. Foy. The Official
Matchday Programme's (left) are priced at £3, and contain 44 pages of
information, as well as a 12 page insert for the F.A. Umbro Sunday Cup,
that kicks off at 3pm.
The clubhouse will be open at Park Lane, once fans start
to arrive, back from Aston Villa.
There will be no authorised Canvey merchandise on sale
at Villa Park. Judging by the quality of the scarves, and flags that were
on sale today in Furtherwick Road, the quality will be very poor from
un-authorised sellers - the wrong colours will stand out a mile - so be
warned the fans next to you will know that you supported the bootleggers!!
We will be recording the day in pictures from early
morning to late at night, so if the lens is pointing your way, please
smile! Whatever the the result, we hope that everyone enjoys their day
out, and brings back memories to treasure. 12/5/01

Wardy to score the first goal at Villa Park?
Well Surrey Sports are offering odds of 50-1, sadly own goals do not count
:-) Strangely they have Sammy Cooper down as 66/1, so perhaps they know
more than we do! Other odds available include...
Vaughan 5/1
Gregory 7/1
Tilson 8/1
Jones 8/1
So Wardy (right) scoring the first goal in a 5 - 0 victory,
would give you very good odds! Mind you if that bet wins I'll throw in a
hundred pounds to the first person placing the bet!

The Villa Park ticket office has now closed.
However tickets will be on sale on the day of the game at Villa Park. Any
Canvey fans who are purchasing on the day need to head for either the
Holte End Stand (behind the goal) or the Trinity Road Stand (side), to
join the other few thousand Gull's supporters. The game will be live on
BBC Essex on 95.3FM & 104.3FM, and on Sky Sports 1. 11/5/01

Two 8' banners were delivered to the supporters club today, and
are now flying in Furtherwick Road, until Saturday evening, before making
the trip to Villa Park. 11/5/01

The club house was
the venue for a very well attended meeting of fans last night where
Chris Gardener introduced the idea of setting up an Official Supporters
Club for Canvey Island FC. A few years ago a similar club was set up but all that is
left now, apart from the name, is the unofficial travel club which is
run by Chris and Dave Doughty. The
new Supporters Club would be open to all fans of the club and although
final details have yet to be agreed, it was suggested that in return for
an annual membership fee, fans would get a reduction on the cost of
coach travel, first option on tickets for big games and a regular
newsletter. Less obvious
but still very important, the Supporters Club would be in a position to
arrange regular dialogue and feedback with the club management and
possibly end some of the speculation and rumour that sometimes seems to
exist on the terraces.
It was agreed at last night’s
meeting to elect an executive committee who will meet to discuss the
details of getting the club set up.
The fans voted Dave Doughty, Chris Gardener, Rod Hall, Jan
Edwards, Trevor Edwards, Ian Walmsley, Gary Henderson and Garry Baldry onto the new
executive committee and they will meet next week before reporting back
with more specific details to another general meeting of fans to be held
in the clubroom on Thursday 29th May.
Everyone is invited on 29th,
but if you can’t make it, you can keep in touch via the website. If you have any points of view or suggestions for the
Supporters Club, why not email us at admin@canveyfc.com
or post your thoughts on the discussion board. We have introduced a
supporters club section to the site at
www.canveyfc.com/supporters.
This section will contain all the latest supporters club news and
information. 11/05/01

Coach Glenn Pennyfather added his signature to the 'Good Luck'
board, that this week has been in the Knightswick shopping centre. The
board will be available for signing until Saturday evening. All the
players signed the board last night, following the last training session
prior to Sunday's big game. The team depart for the Birmingham area
tomorrow (Friday).

Following today's amicable meeting held between Canvey Island,
Dagenham & Redbridge and the Essex F.A., we can now announce that the
Essex Senior Cup, that was due to be played on April 23rd, will now be
played in either August or September. The match will take place at
Victoria Road, home of Dagenham & Redbridge, and will take priority over
other games. Canvey have received a £200 fine, and will have to pay other
associated costs relating to the postponed game, but no further action
will be taken against the club. A date for the new fixture will be released shortly.
The Essex FA, in a press release said ' We feel that it was in the best
interests of football that the County's most prestigious Final be played
and were very pleased that this was the unanimous feeling of the two
participating clubs.'

If you are getting bored, without football for at least 48 hours,
the reserves have come to your rescue! Their game away at Ware on Saturday
was postponed, and will now be played at Park Lane tonight (Tues) at
7.30pm. On Friday, the reserves complete their season with another home
game against Brentwood, however this game will be played at Concord
Rangers. Why not pop along and support the reserves in these two games.
The reserves have had a superb season, and still have an outside chance to
snatch the championship from leaders Braintree Town. The latest
league table is here.

As the final draws ever closer, the Island is slowly awakening to
the fact that their football team is in a national final. Many fans have
been critical of the lack of visible support for The Gulls, and it has to
be said that many of them are justified with very few shops, and
businesses taking the time and effort to get involved. However during this
week, we will feature any businesses, organisations or individuals that
are supporting the team. If you know of any other shops, groups, or
individuals that are getting behind the team, please let us know on 0845
345 8888 or at fat@canveyfc.com. The
photos below may take a few seconds to download.
Pastor Brenda Gutberlet, and her congregation at Canvey Methodist Church
are getting behind the team, by decorating the church, and having blue and
yellow pulpit flowers on the day of the big match.

An individual that is supporting the team is 'Big Mad Al'. A regular
Canvey fan, he has gone further than most by decorating his home. from top
to bottom.

If your business, shop or organisation is supporting
Canvey, or if you are as
crazy or crazier than Al, please let us know on 0845 345 888, or
fat@canveyfc.com, and we will come
and take your photograph - wherever you are! 7/5/01

Today,
was our final league game of the season, which was kindly sponsored by
First Hosting. Hitchin Town were the visitors and were looking to be the
only team to do the double over Canvey, having beaten us last week.
However a very tired looking Canvey drew the game, to finish the season on
89 points. The result means that Canvey have not been beaten at Park Lane
this season since Farnborough's visit on the first day of the season. A
record that probably no other side from Manchester United down can claim!
One of the players who has been instrumental in this superb
record is Canvey's keeper Ashley Harrison (also sponsored by First
Hosting!). He has played no less than 64 senior games this season, and has
picked up the Safe Hands award from the league along the way. His
achievements have also been recognised by the fans, as the supporters club
presented Ashley (left) with the Supporters Player Of The Year
award.
Also
presented with an award was Rod Hall (right), who has worked tirelessly
behind the scenes to bring the ground up to conference standard.
Congratulations to them both.
Okay so we have had two blatant plugs for First Hosting,
but thanks must also go to all the companies and individuals who have
sponsored both players, and games this season. No doubt Keith Johnson
(Commercial Manager), is already gearing up for a visit to you in the
close season!
There is one final minor game to play this season, and
that is next Sunday at Villa Park. Tickets will be on sale on Tuesday and
Wednesday from 10am to 4pm, and on Thursday morning. Tickets can be
purchased from Kings Club in Hindles Road, Canvey, or via the telephone on
01268 510346. Credit cards are accepted, but subject to a small
administration fee. Tickets should also be available on the day at Villa
Park, but buy them now to avoid disappointment. Coaches will depart from
Park Lane at 8am on Sunday, and tickets must be purchased in advance (as
above). Alcohol will not be permitted on the coaches by law, and the
drivers must strictly adhere to this, as spot checks could occur.
In other games today Braintree Town were promoted to the
Premier Division along with Bedford Town & Boreham Wood. These three will
replace Slough Town, Carshalton Athletic & Dulwich Hamlet. Congratulations
to three promoted teams, commiseration to the other three. It looks like
Kingstonian will be joining the Premier Division next year, as they have
been relegated from the Conference.

The
Supporters Club will be holding a meeting in the clubhouse on Thursday
10th May @ 8pm to discuss the structure of the club for next
season. There are several new ideas buzzing around, including a
travel club. All points of view are welcome. Please try to
come along. 5/5/01

Canvey began their final three league games
of the season (all at home), with a victory over Carshalton Athletic. This
win means that Canvey are guaranteed to finish as runners-up in the
Isthmian Premier League. Tomorrow (Friday), we are at home to Croydon, and
then at home on Saturday to Hitchin. 3/5/01

Following last nights victory over
Farnborough (match report here), we
move onto Hampton & Richmond tonight, for another attempt to play the
game, that was abandoned last week. Admission will be half-price for
tonight. We need another 2 points to be certain of 2nd place. Basingstoke
(3rd) can no longer catch Canvey, which leaves Aldershot (4th), who still
have 4 games to play. The latest table is here.

The supporters club are holding a 'Gentlemen's Evening' on
Saturday evening (5th May) from 8.30pm. Tickets are £15, with all drinks
at £1.50. All the proceeds will be going to the Football Club funds. Tickets
will be on sale at all three of our remaining home games (Thursday, Friday
& Saturday).
1/5/01
|
Canvey have reduced the admission prices for the three remaining
home fixtures of the season. On Thursday, Friday & Saturday of this week
Juniors under 16 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult, and
on Thursday & Friday adults will be pay the reduced admission price of £5
(£3 senior citizens). On Thursday we are home to Carshalton, on Friday
Croydon visit, and our league fixtures finish with the visit of Hitchin.
Why not take the opportunity to come down to Park Lane, and wish the
players all the best for the F.A. Trophy Final. 1/5/01
