A Message From The Webmasters
Following the recent
decision by the management of Canvey Island Football
Club to ban webmasters from this site from home games at Park Lane, we find
ourselves in an extremely difficult situation.
The ban came as very much
of a shock to us all, especially as no
satisfactory reason has ever given by the club for its
decision. After much deliberation we have taken the very
difficult decision to close this unofficial website - after
five years of hard work, personal expense and dedication
to the club. We have thought long and hard over this
decision, but have come to the conclusion that without
access to home games ( regarding reports and statistics
) we will no longer be able to provide
the level of service that we feel we owe our readers.
The CanveyFC.Com pages will
remain here for students of the history of Canvey Island
FC, but under the present circumstances we will no
longer be able to update the pages on the regular basis
that we have maintained in the past. Rather that see the
quality of the site decline, we have decided to end
proceedings on a high note, rather than a sour one.
For up to date news and
information about the Canvey Island FC, we suggest you
visit the club’s newly launched official website at
www.canveyislandfc.com where, we would like to say
you will be able to find impartial match reports and a
lively fans’ forum.
The three webmasters would
like to publicly thank all our friends in both the Ryman
League and the wider footballing community ( when our
paths have crossed in cup matches! ) for their support
and banter over the years and all those fans from across
the non-league fraternity for their messages of sympathy
and encouragement over recent sad events.

We regret to announce that
Canvey Island FC have
banned us from Park Lane. As a result we will no longer be able to cover
home matches. This ban applies to both match reports &
photographs and affects Ian, Merv and Matt.
We were informed of the ban by the club's Chairman, Ray Cross,
on Saturday (23/8/03) at Maidenhead. The reason for the ban is
apparently due to statements that the club feels are
critical, that we have posted to this web site in editorial
content this season.
We apologise for any inconvenience this lack of coverage
will have - but we all remain loyal fans of Canvey FC, and
hope that next season we will have Conference football at
Park Lane.We are very
grateful for all the messages of support that we have
received, from not only Canvey fans, but also fans of other
non league clubs throughout both our league, and the wider
footballing community. Every single message of support has
been appreciated at this very distressing time.
We sincerely hope that this situation
can be turned around quickly, and we can get back to
promoting Canvey Island FC, as we have done for the last few
years. However, we were informed that the way to have the
ban revoked would be to close CanveyFC.Com down - this would
be very sad and of course mean that both reporting &
photographing games would be pointless. A no win situation.
Ironically we were due this weekend to
celebrate our 5th anniversary of the web site, but for
obvious reasons, do not feel like celebrating. Maybe we will
have an opportunity soon to share some of the many
highlights of those 5 years.
Our
forum remains active, but excuse us if we do not take an
active part in discussions about current events.
Please continue to support Canvey Island FC, and get behind the
lads on the pitch.
