Yet Another Canvey Final
(Yet Another Game To Fit In!)

Picture copyright CanveyFC.Com / First HostingCanvey find themselves through to yet another final this season. This time the Essex Senior Cup Final to be played at Roots Hall on 23rd April against Conference side Dagenham & Redbridge. It was hardly a stylish game tonight and following hot on the heels from Saturday's fireworks at Chester it was, in reality, rather lackluster.

The first half was almost totally dominated by Purfleet as Canvey struggled to find form. After only half an hour goalkeeper Steve Mead limped off with what appeared to be a groin strain and was replaced by Jon O'Brien. But the replacement keeper had little opportunity to demonstrate his prowess, such was the lack of attack from Canvey. But there was only just a little more excitement at the other end and in general the sparse crowd had very little to cheer about.

TPicture copyright CanveyFC.Com / First Hostinghe first half finished with the teams on level terms with Purfleet being just in the lead on points. But that was about to end as Canvey went straight into the driving seat the moment the second half started. They now looked much more challenging and purposeful. This was demonstrated only too clearly in the 46th minute when Steve Parmenter saw a chink in Purfleet's defence and unleashed a powerful shot from 20yds that was unstoppable.

The goal seemed to lift Canvey's game and within the space of just a couple of minutes we saw another shot from Parms, a corker from Chris Duffy and then a superb header from Adam Miller. All just slightly too high or too wide. But at least the shots were coming.

Picture copyright CanveyFC.Com / First HostingPurfleet were finding it difficult now to get into the Canvey half and the only surprise is that there weren't more goals. Steve Parmenter had a terrific shot rebound off the upright and Adam Miller came in quickly, only to see his shot bounce off the crossbar.

And so it continued with plenty of near misses but no more goals. Both sides re-shuffled their line-ups but still the goals wouldn't go in. Eventually the game finished with just the one goal separating the two sides and Canvey now have another final to fit into their already overcrowded schedule
