Canvey overcame local rivals Chelmsford City 5 - 1 in a friendly at Park Lane. The first goal came from Steve Morris for City, but the Gulls, came back strong with goals from Andy Jones, Neil Gregory, trialist Scott Forbes, and two from trialist Wayne Vaughan. Canvey: Harrison, Brazier, Davidson, Smith, Bodley, Kennedy, Tilson, Forbes, Gregory, Jones, Parmenter. Subs: Stimson, Vaughan.  29/7/00

Essex Thames-Side Trophy update:- Waltham Abbey have now withdrawn from the competition, which leaves the final to be played between Canvey Island and Purfleet. The match will be played at Purfleet, on a date still to be decided. The original date of 8th August is no longer convenient with Purfleet. Canvey go into the final having not conceded a goal in this years competition. Full details of the trophy can be found here. 29/7/00

Kevin James, who had been given a trial by Canvey, has now been given a two match trial by Gillingham. James who last season was on loan to Farnborough from Charlton Athletic, was impressive at Park Lane during the Gillingham friendly. 28/7/00

Canvey went down 2 -1 to Sittingbourne midweek. Canvey's goal was again scored by Wayne Vaughan. 25/7/00

First Division Gillingham were the visitors to Park Lane today. A good performance by the lads, despite losing 2 - 1. Gillingham's goals were scored by James Pinnock & Paul Shaw, with Wayne Vaughan pulling one back for the Gulls in the last period of the game.  Canvey: Harrison, Smith, Davidson, Bennett, Bodley, Stimson, James, Duffy, Gregory, Clark, Parmenter. The first friendly was against Colchester United, which Canvey won 1 - 0 with a 20th minute winner from Steve Parmenter. Canvey: Harrison, Smith, Davidson, Bennett, Bodley, Ward, Tilson, Duffy, Gregory, Jones, Parmenter. Subs: Clark, King, Britnell, Vaughan, Collins. 18/7/00

An extra home friendly has now been arranged for Tuesday 25th July against Sittingbourne. This replaces the original away fixture against Waltham Abbey. Full details of all fixtures for the new season can be found here. 17/7/00

Congratulations to Steve Ward & Chris Duffy, who both picked up awards at the recent Supports Club BBQ. Steve Ward was the players 'Player of the Year' , and Chris Duffy picked up the Manager's 'Player of the Year'.  8/7/00

Steve Clark has now signed for Canvey from St. Albans City. Clark has been at St. Albans since 1991, and had made 488 appearances for the club. 6/7/00

F.A. Trophy  - as Canvey finished last season in the top 5 they have been rewarded with a bye for the first round of the F.A. Umbro Trophy. In the second round they have been drawn away to either Harlow Town or Basingstoke Town on Saturday December 2nd. 1/7/00

F.A. Cup 2nd Qualifying round - Canvey have been drawn at home to Braintree Town or Banbury United or Long Buckby or Clapton. The game will be played at Park Lane on Saturday 30th September. 1/7/00

The early rounds have been released for the FA Cup, Trophy & Vase - as usual we have all the initial rounds available on this site. See the menu to your left. Meanwhile the Canvey Island Youth Team have been drawn at home on the 2nd September in the FA Youth Cup, and face Bishops Stortford. 1/7/00
